Backstage & Technical Internship
Internship Job information: Support the technical requirements and production efforts of The Midland Theatre under supervision of the staff Technical Director. Responsibilities to include stage routines and maintenance, performance prep, sound, lighting, carpentry and other duties in a fast-paced active performing arts center atmosphere.
Key job tasks:
- Support with set up and tear down of performances & meetings
- Move equipment within and without the theatre
- Assist with performer requests and specific performance needs
- Maintain show files and tracking systems
Supporting tasks may include:
- Assist with crowd control
- General Office procedures, i.e. copying, filing, collating reports
- Attend staff meetings
- Prep theatre on performance days
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with theatrical production methods, procedures & jargon
- Ability to lift 50lbs safely
- Familiar with common Microsoft Suite of computer programs
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere

Marketing & Promotion Internship
Internship Job information: Support the marketing efforts of The Midland Theatre under the supervision of the Marketing Director. Responsibilities to include copywriting, creating social media communications, communicating with outside media and artist contacts, and supporting marketing plans.
Key job tasks:
- Write and distribute Press Releases
- Compile and write copy for individual show programs, including editing artist bios, detailing upcoming shows, and gathering and listing sponsor and supporter information
- Compile internal artist media kits – gathering artist photos, bios, music and video, as applicable.
- Maintain database for: media contacts, patrons, and special constituencies
- Maintain Midland’s Facebook & Twitter accounts. Create a plan to keep it current and exciting. And create an outreach plan.
- Develop additional Social Media marketing efforts
- Support further development of E-Marketing program and outreach plan
- Support development of marketing literature, ensuring valid, current and accurate content.
Supporting tasks may include:
- Assist in the planning and development of print and media campaigns, including ad placement and copywriting for print, radio and television ads. (Supporting the design, negotiation, and buying of advertising in local media.)
- Initiate media opportunities including on-air interviews and feature stories.
- Support new Web site development and future maintenance (up to date pictures, events, copy, announcements, etc).
Qualifications:
- Familiar with common Microsoft Suite of computer programs
- Effective communication and organizational skills are a must
- Ability to pick up routine procedures and daily routines quickly
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere

Arts Administration Internship
Internship Job information: Support the business efforts of The Midland Theatre under the supervision of the leadership staff. Responsibilities to include secretarial correspondence, grant & sponsorship review, artist research & contracting, and general office duties in a non-profit corporation atmosphere.
Key job tasks:
- Maintain Artist files and tracking systems
- Research, compile and document individual show information
- Process contracts
- Maintain database for sponsors, grants and other business partners of the theatre
- Compile and store documents
- Assist with Box Office operations
- Support Marketing program and outreach plan
Supporting tasks may include:
- General Office procedures, i.e. copying, filing, collating materials, mailings
- Attend staff meetings
- Prep theatre on performance days
- Support various meeting requirements with set up and tear down
Qualifications:
- Familiar with common Microsoft Suite of computer programs
- Effective communication and organizational skills are a must
- Ability to pick up routine procedures and daily routines quickly
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere
