As an Official Venue for Ohio Goes to the Movies™ – a Signature Event of America 250-Ohio – we’re celebrating Ohio’s incredible contributions to American film with classic movies on the big screen where they belong.

The Midland Theatre: An Official Venue for Ohio Goes to the Movies™ The Midland Theatre in Newark, Ohio has been a movie house since opening night on December 20, 1928. For five decades, audiences counted on The Midland for the biggest films of every era, from Gone With the Wind to Ben Hur to Dr. Zhivago. Saturday afternoons packed the house with kids catching the latest adventures on the big screen.
Now, as an Official Venue for Ohio Goes to the Movies™ (OGTTM) – a Signature Event of America 250-Ohio – The Midland is bringing that tradition home. This statewide celebration showcases Ohio’s remarkable contributions to American filmmaking, honoring the actors, directors, writers, and stories connected to the Buckeye State across all 88 counties. Experience classic films the way they were meant to be seen: on a real big screen, in a beautifully restored historic theatre, surrounded by the Spanish-inspired architecture and velvet grandeur that has captivated audiences for nearly a century.
Student tickets available at a reduced price. Seniors always FREE. We believe everyone should experience the magic of a classic movie on a big screen – because the movies are art, and art is for everyone. Check our schedule for upcoming screenings and join us in celebrating Ohio’s film legacy.
