Midland Theatre Historic Campaign: It’s Showtime!

The historic Midland Theatre has served as vibrant cornerstone of Newark and Licking County for almost a century. The $2 million It’s Showtime campaign will launch The Midland into an exciting future with renovated facilities and state-of-the-art new technologies, support for our talented staff, and a firmer fiscal foundation.

Cutting-edge Technologies Anchor Capital Improvements

The Midland opened in 1928 equipped with the most sophisticated technologies of that time. Today’s technologies have sky-rocketed with new possibilities. The Midland aims to replace and upgrade sound and lighting, install a new high-definition projector, and amplify livestream technologies that will inspire creative new partnerships and possibilities.

In addition, The Midland building itself will see much-need improvements, including a new roof, H-vac system overhaul and replacement, upgraded and renovated interiors and exteriors, renovated restrooms brought into compliance with COVID guidelines, and refreshed soft furnishings such as curtains, upholstery and carpeting.

On-going Support for Staff and Operations

The heart of the Midland is the staff who keep the grand old building in good repair; plan, book and promote events; and work behind the scenes to make the magic happen on stage. During the pandemic shutdown, The Midland staff is keeping music flowing to the community with couch concerts and hosting socially distanced meetings for local community organizations and businesses, at it prepares to bring back exciting live music events in accordance with State of Ohio guidelines.

Building on a Firm Fiscal Foundation

It’s Showtime aims to increase our permanent endowment to provide a more robust annual income stream to help cushion economic unpredictability and ensure The Midland will be the Heart of the Arts in Licking County for decades to come.
